elderly在句中主要用作定语,偶尔也可用作表语,无比较级和最高级。
elderly作定语形容词时,一般不用于修饰人以外的其他事物,但在非正式语体中,也可以修饰物。
elderly还可用作名词,指那些辈分高,阅历丰富的人。例如:The experiences of the elderly are quite useful to the young.对年轻人讲,前辈的经验是十分有用的。
