Rising global temperatures and gradual changes in seasonal conditions could make 99.7 percent of Arabica-growing areas unsuitable for the plant by 2080, according to a new study by researchers from Kew Gardens. Identifying new places where Arabica could be grown away from its natural home in the mountains of South Sudan could be the only way of preventing the extinction of the species, researchers said. Arabica is one of the only two species of beans used to make coffee and is by far the most popular, accounting for 70 percent of the global market including almost all fresh coffee sold in the US and Europe. A different bean known as Robusta, native to Vietnam, is used in freeze-dried coffee and is commonly drunk in Greece and Turkey, but its high caffeine (咖啡因) content makes it much less pleasant to most drinkers. The new study, published in the PLOS ONE journal, used computer modeling to predict the survival prospect of Arabica for the first time. Aaron Davis, head of coffee research at the Royal Botanic Gardens, said: "Arabica can only exist at a very specific pace with a very specific number of other variables(变量)." Global warming happens so fast that the farmers would have to move their plantations(种植园) every decade to survive, he added. The researchers said their prediction were "conservative" because they didn't take into consideration the widespread forest destruction taking place in the forests where the beans are grown, or other factors such as a drop in the number of birds which spread seeds. Even if the beans do not disappear completely from the wild, climate change is highly likely to have a great effect on production and the taste of coffee beans in future decades, they added.26. According to the study, most part of Arabica-growing areas will be unsuitable for the plant within ________.A. about 3 decades B. about 7 decades C. about 10 decades D. about 15 decades27. Arabica is native to ____________.A. Vietnam B. the USA C. Greece D. South Sudan28. We can infer from the passage that ____________.A. the majority of people drink coffee made by RobustaB. Robusta makes up half of the global coffee marketC. all fresh coffee is made by ArabicaD. Arabica is not high in caffeine29. Climate change may affect Arabica in the following ways EXCEPT ____________.A. the color of coffee beans B. its survival C. its output D. the taste of coffee beans30. In the last paragraph, the author suggests that __________.A. Arabica won't disappear completely from the wildB. Arabica could die out later than the predictionC. Arabica could die out earlier than the predictionD. deforestation in the forests makes no difference to the growth of ArabicaBCan you think your way to wealth and success?
