In 1971, readers around the world were astonished by some photographs which appeared in newspapers. Hidden deep in the rainforests of an island in the Philippines, was an ethnic (种族的) 36 called the Tasaday. Not until that moment did anyone have any 37 of these people. They didn’t have an agricultural economy; they hunted animals and 38 fruit from the plants in the rainforest. They carried tools made of stone, lived in 39 and wore clothes made of leaves. Unknown until 1971, they 40 became world famous. After that, there were TV 41 and books about them; people said their simple lives showed that human beings could be good and kind if they were not 42 by modern life. Then after 1974 the region was closed by the government and the world 43 about them.
In 1986, a Swiss journalist, Oswald Iten, decided to visit the Tasaday. The journey 44 thick rainforests and across rivers was hard and dangerous. Mr. Iten was 45 killed by the soldiers, villagers and businessmen who wanted to take the wood from the rainforest. Finally, Mr. Iten 46 and found the caves of the Tasaday 47 . The people were living in nearby huts and they were all 48 jeans and T-shirts, not leaves. He thought that perhaps they were not an ethnic minority 49 .
When he 50 to Switzerland, Mr. Iten wrote about the Tasaday people in the newspapers. He said he thought that they were just ordinary farmers, poor, but not 51 from anyone else. He believed that in 1971, the government told “the Tasaday” to 52 they were native people from thousands of years ago, so that tourists---and money---would start 53 into the region.
One group of experts said that they really were people who had no 54 with modern life before 1971; another group said they were just 55 the part. So who are these people, really? Perhaps we’ll never really be sure.

We all know that sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.
Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water.Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.
There are many environment-friendly sports.Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse.Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit.If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones.Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.
Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”.They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers.Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.
56. Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of ?
A.Motor racing in the desert. B.Cycling around a lake
C.Playing basketball in a gym. D.Swimming in a sports center.
57.The author uses power walking as an example mainly because _________.
A.it is an outdoor sport B.it improves our health
C.it is recommended by experts D.it uses fewer resources
58.The author writes the passage to _________.
A.show us the function of major sports
B.discuss the major influence of popular sports
C.encourage us to go in for green sports

A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stone may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that’s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves ? the positive and negative effects are just as lasting.
We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We’re usually too embarrassed to admit it, though. But we really shouldn’t be, because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit.
This “self-talk” helps us motivate ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Beware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying, “Good job!”
Words possess power because of their lasting effects. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid.
Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem(自尊) and motive others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours. ks5u
63.The author argues in the first paragraph that ________.
A.words will never hurt us at all
B.positive effects last longer than negative effects
C.words have lasting effects on us
D.negative words last longer than positive effects
64.Why should we not feel embarrassed when talking to ourselves?
A.Talking to ourselves is believed to be good for our health.
B.It does harm to have “self-talk” when we are alone.
C.Talking to ourselves helps us to solve all the problems.
D.Almost everybody has the habit of talking to oneself.
65.The underlined phrase “give ourselves a pat on the back” in Paragraph 3 means _________.
A.blame ourselves B.punish ourselves
C. talk to ourselves D.praise ourselves
66.Which of the following statements would the author agree to?
A.It is impossible for unkind words to be forgotten.
B.It is better to think twice before talking to others.
C.Words always possess long positive effects.
D.Kind words are sometimes not needed at all.
D
Over the last 70 years.researchers have been studying happy and unhappy people and finally found out ten factors that make a difference. Our feelings of well-being at any moment are determined to a certain degree by genes. However, of all the factors, wealth and age are the top two.
Money can buy a degree of happiness. But once you can afford to feed, clothe and house yourself, each extra dollar makes less and less difference.
Researchers find that,on average, wealthier people are happier. But the link between money and happiness is complex. In the past half-century, average income has sharply increased in developed countries, yet happiness levels have remained almost the same.Once your basic needs are met, money only seems to increase happiness if you have more than your friends, neighbors and colleagues.
“Dollars buy Status(社会地位),and status makes people feel better,” conclude some experts, which helps explain why people who can seek status in other ways, scientists or actors, for example, may happily accept relatively poorly-paid jobs.
In a research,Professor Alex Michalos found that the people whose desires, not just for money, but for friends, family, job, health, rose furthest beyond what they already had, tended to be less happy than those who felt a smaller gap(差距).Indeed, the size of the gap predicted happiness about five times better than income alone.“The gap measures just blow away the only measures of income,”says Michalos.
Another factor that has to do with happiness is age.Old age may not be so bad.“Given all the problems of aging, how could the elderly be more satisfied?” asks Professor Laura Carstensen.
Why are old people happier? Some scientists suggest older people may expect life to be harder and learn to live with it,or they're more realistic about their goals, only setting ones that they know they can achieve. But Carstensen thinks that with time running out, older people have learned to focus on things that make them happy and let go of those that don't.
“People realize not only what they have, but also that what they have cannot last forever,” she says.“A goodbye kiss to a husband or wife at the age of 85,for example, may bring far more complex emotional responses than a similar kiss to a boy or girl friend at the age of 20.”
67.According to the passage, the feeling of happiness _________.
A.is determined partly by genes B.increases gradually with age
C.is measured by desires D.has little to do with wealth
68.Some actors would like to accept poorly-paid jobs because the jobs _________.
A.make them feel much better B.provide chances to make friends
C.satisfy their professional interests D.improve their social position
69.Aged people are more likely to feel happy because they are more _________.
A.optimistic B.successful C.practical D.emotional
70.Professor Alex Michalos found that people feel less happy if __________.
A.their income is below their expectation
B.the gap between reality and desire is bigger
C.they have a stronger desire for friendship
D.the hope for good health is greater

参考范文:
Shopping on the Internet
Shopping on the Internet is becoming very popular. People can shop for a variety of products on it. For example, they can buy various physical products like books, CDs, clothes, etc. They can also buy information products such as on-line news, magazines and stories. At the same time, they can download computer software from the Internet. What’s more, services such as booking airline tickets or hotel rooms are available on the Internet.
Internet shopping has many advantages, of which the most important one is convenience. We can shop whenever we like, as the online shops are open 24 hours a day. It is often cheaper to buy goods on the Internet. However, we can’t actually see the products we want or check their quality , so there are chances that people may be taken in.
As we all know, every coin has two sides. There is no exception to shopping online. Going for shopping on the Internet? It is but a choice for you to make in this Information Age.

Text 1
W: Why are you leaving us, Peter?
M: It is so hot standing in the kitchen all day. I can’t bear it.
Text 2
M: I want an English textbook and a notebook.
W: All of the textbooks are on the shelves in the back. The notebooks are over there by the cash register.
Text 3
W: It is so hot today!
M: Yes, it’s been more than 350C nearly the whole day.
W: Quite surprising though, the coolest time today was near noon.
M: Well we did have rain at that time.
Text 4
M: Could you lend me some money?
W: I guess so. How much do you need?
M: How about 100 dollars?
W: I don’t have that much with me. I can let you have 50 dollars.
Text 5
W: I feel horrible. Daisy was angry at me, because I lost her notes. Do you think I should apologise again?
M: If I were you, I’d let her calm down a few days before I approach her.
W: Maybe you’re right.
Text 6
M: Mary, look at this! They’ve got jackets on sale — only $100 each, and they’re of really good quality, too. Here, feel this.
W: Mm, if feels OK, I suppose. I don’t know if it’s worth $100, though.
M: Let me look in the mirror. What do you think?
W: Well, it looks a bit small for you, John.
M: Yeah, it does a bit. Funny, I’ve always been this size.
W: You must have put on some weight.
M: Yes. Time to get in shape, I guess.
Text 7
M: I’m thinking of taking my family out to eat tonight. Do you know of a good place?
W: You could try the Pizza House. It has a great selection of pizzas.
M: I’d rather go to a place that serves vegetables. We’ve been eating too much junk food recently.
W: Then you should try Sally’s Home Cooking. It’s about a 30-minute drive from here, but their food is great and the prices are right.
M: Do you know of anything a little closer?
W: Well, you could try Antonio’s. It’s just down the road.
M: I’ve been there before, and the food wasn’t very good. I guess we’ll try Sally’s Home Cooking.
Text 8
W: Hello? Excuse me.
M: Yeah. What is it?
W: My name’s Angela. I’m a journalist. I write for Little Island magazine and I’m interviewing people about their lifestyle. Do you have a moment?
M: Do I have a moment? Are you kidding? I don’t have time to breathe. Listen, I’m a banker. I work for one of the biggest banks in this city and right now I’m working a hundred hours a week. And I’m not doing it for my health, I can tell you. I’m buying a new apartment. Oh, on top of that, I’m looking after my mother’s car while she’s on vacation. And on top of that, look at me, I’m running because I’m trying to keep fit. Anyway, sorry, honey, I’d love to help, but I’m just much too busy.
W: Oh, OK, well, thank you.

W: Wow! The burglar really made a mess.
M: Uh, Officer, my apartment always looks like this.
W: Well, did you lock your door and windows when you left this morning?
M: I’m sure I locked the door, but the windows…I don’t remember.
W: OK, sir. What time did you come home? ks5u
M: I came home at 6:00 p.m.
W: When did you notice that something was wrong?
M: Well, I went to turn on the TV, but it was gone. And so was my stereo, my DVD player, and all of my CDs! That was a great collection!
W: Now, we’ll have to dust for fingerprints. Did you touch anything else besides the door when you came in?
M: I opened the refrigerator, and my leftover Chinese food was gone, too. I was saving that food for dinner tonight!
W: I’ll call the detectives and they will check for fingerprints. Then you’ll have to fill out a report.
M: Thank you, Officer.ks5u
Text 10
M: I had a strange experience yesterday. I went climbing up the mountains and it started to get dark so I thought I’d better get back down as fast as possible. Well, I started walking back down the mountain trail as fast as I could, but it kept getting darker and darker. Pretty soon, I was totally lost. Suddenly I saw a strange light up in the tree. I was really surprised. And then, I saw a little old man carrying the light — he was right in front of me. He didn’t say anything to me. In fact, I couldn’t even see his face, like he had no eyes, or nose, or… It was really strange. He just stood there in front of me. Then he started walking down the trail, and I just followed him. When we got to the bottom of the mountain and I tried to thank the old man for helping me, he just disappeared.
